IS SASSA GRANT INCREASE – OCTOBER
The government of South Africa has created its national agency named SASSA. SASSA is an institution that is responsible for social work in South Africa. The agency aims to provide financial relief to needy people of South Africa. It has initiated various grants which are purely made to benefit the people in South Africa.
These grants help deserving people to achieve financial freedom. According to a report, more than 10 million people apply monthly to become a beneficiary of SASSA grants. SASSA has set a fixed amount for each grant that will be paid to beneficiaries. They increased the grant amount in October, considering the inflation.

SASSA has announced the increase of grants by 2022. It increased in April and October. Here’s the SASSA grant’s original value list before the increase.

SASSA announced the increase in grants in April. The agency increased R 90 in Care Dependency Grant, Disability Grant, Old Age Grant, and War Veteran’s Grant. They also increased R 20 in the Foster Child’s Care Grant and Child Support Grant.

After an increase in grants in April, SASSA has once again increased the value for some grants in October 2022. This time only four grants are increased.

Cost For Increasing The Value of Grants
SASSA explained that all these increased grant values cost them R 44 billion.

SASSA has taken a brilliant step to increase the value of grants. The value of grants was too low, but with these increments, it would be better for beneficiaries.
According to SASSA, approximately 46% of the overall population are the beneficiaries of their grants. In 2021 they extended the COVID-19 SRD grant until the end of 2022 to help unemployed people.
